 The two dogs were seen hugging each other as they were surrendered by their owner to a high-kill shelter in Texas earlier this month.

According to Cindy Droogmans, founder of the A-Team Elite Rescue Dogs, a Long Island-based group which saves needy dogs from overcrowded shelters (and is named A-Team after Amelia, Droogmans’ first rescue dog), Adonis and Apollo were shaking with fear.

Luckily, they didn’t have to stay at the shelter for long. Droogmans rescued them and brought them to her veterinarian in Huntington, New York. “Probably they are dumped because they are heartworm positive, like most dogs in Texas,” Droogmans told The Dodo. “They are in full treatment now.”

Even at the vet, Adonis and Apollo are inseparable. Unfortunately, the love between the two dogs can make it even harder for them to find a forever family, since adopting two dogs is twice the commitment. But Droogmans is determined to find the perfect home for these best friends.

“A bonded pair is always difficult to place, but look at them,” she said. “How can they ever be split up?”
